Summer is almost over, and it has been a busy few months for the local firefighters! Now they want your help as they do their annual Fill The Boot for MDA. On Friday August 9th from 10am to 6pm make sure you stop by (or drive by) the Addison/Locust intersection with your spare change and dollars.

Today is the first day of summer! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Now that we got that out of our system - what are you going to do during the hot summer days with your kids? How about a trip to the park! Here's an interesting thought. We have all been in a situation where we thought a parent wasn't doing their job. They were letting their kids run, scream, fight, yell, or worse and we blame the parent for the kid acting crazy. What if that applied to bullying too? What if the City of Twin Falls fined the parents of bullies? Would it fix the problem?

We had a big group of nominations for the Magic Valley Teacher of the Year Award, and after it was narrowed down to the top ten finalists we got our winner! It was nice to see parents and students get so excited to recognize their teachers and schools. After thousands of votes the winner of the iPad Mini and $500 for their school was Jerome High School Speech teacher Scott Burton!

Last week after going through the nominations, Jordan Brown was chosen as the winner for the surprise half day of yard clean-up! Kimberly Nurseries went out to her house to make a game plan for helping her and her twin daughters enjoy their yard better. They decided that the little girls needed a nice new sandbox to play in and a swing set.

Living where we do, with all the options for outdoor activities, we risk being lost or injured in many different ways. Granted none of us plans on getting hurt while hiking or playing - it does happen, and when it does the local Quick Response Units come to the rescue. The 6th annual QRU Fundraiser Event is this Sunday in Twin Falls.

May is Foster Care Awareness month across the country and you can help the organizations in charge of taking care of foster kids by running or walking in the One Church One Child 5k race.

We have two vacuums in our house (not counting the dogs) and both have lately been sucking at sucking. One is old that we got for our wedding 10 years ago and the other is a pretty new Kirby. On Friday my wife took them both to Sawtooth Vacuum and Water Conditioning and they gave her an easy tip on making any vacuum last longer.

Nobody likes it when things are stinky or dirty - except pigs...I believe they like that. That's how it was in the Dark Ages and that is why we changed things! On May 21st the city of Jerome will vote on a $48.6 million bond to update and expand the current waste water treatment facility.
