TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – There’s been a short delay starting construction on a Twin Falls climbing gym, but the owner says not to worry – the facility still plans to open early next year.

Gemstone Climbing held a groundbreaking ceremony in July, with plans to start work on the facility shortly thereafter, but an out-of-state steel manufacturer errored on plans and caused construction to be delayed.

“It was a little bit of a bummer,” said owner Hailey Barnes. “But it’s all good.”

The facility, which is a joint venture of Barnes and her dad, Don Campbell, as well as local climbing enthusiasts, will be about 15,000 square feet – 12,000 of it devoted to climbing. It also will have yoga and physical therapy rooms. Ceilings will reach 40 feet tall, with about 35 to 38 feet of it for climbing space.

Heavy machinery has been moved to the location at 135 5th Ave. S., and crews will be at the site on Monday to get the project underway, Barnes said – as long as it doesn’t rain.

She’s keeping busy with paperwork and looks forward to February or March, when the gym should open to the public.

“We’re behind about two months, but we’ll get there,” she said.
