CSI Diversity Council Celebrates Black History and Women with 3 Films

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – February is Black History Month and Women’s History Month, and to celebrate the College of Southern Idaho’s Diversity Council will show films for three weeks that honor the two groups.

The first film will be shown this Thursday. The community is invited to attend the free showings. The schedule is as follows:

• 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution." This feature-length documentary explores the significance of the Black Panther Party and its cultural and political awakening for African Americans.
• 7 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 2, "Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise." Best known for her autobiography "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," Angelou was a singer, dancer, activist, and a prolific poet and writer. The film documents her upbringing in the Depression-era South, her work with Malcolm X, and her inaugural poem for President Bill Clinton.
• 7 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 9, "Makers: Women Who Make America." This film documents the sweeping social revolution in American history as women strive for their full and fair share of political power, economic opportunity, and personal autonomy.

All films are free of charge and open to the public. Each will be shown in the CSI Student Union building.
