BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) The director for Idaho prisons announced his resignation to lead a national corrections organization. The Idaho Department of Corrections announced Kevin Kempf handed in his letter of resignation to the Idaho Board of Correction and will go on to lead the Association of Sate Correctional Administrators.

Kempf was appointed by the board two years ago and has overhauled treatment programs, phased out solitary confinement, and made an effort to make the department more transparent.

Kempf began his career in corrections in 1995 as a correctional officer. Since then he has served in a variety of positions leading to his post as director of corrections. The board will meet on Wednesday to discuss a replacement.
