BLACKFOOT, Idaho (AP) — Eastern Idaho authorities say they are investigating the death of a Bingham County Jail inmate found hanging by a bedsheet in one of the jail's showers.

Authorities say efforts to revive 35-year-old Nicholas Seamons failed after another inmate reported spotting Seamons hanging in the shower at about 6:45 p.m. on Monday.

Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland tells the Post Register that the other inmate was making his way to the showers when he saw Seamons and alerted authorities.

Rowland says the showers aren't monitored and are available to inmates whenever they are outside their cells.

Seamons was booked into the jail on Saturday on a misdemeanor trespassing charge.

Rowland says Seamons filled out a mental health questionnaire that didn't indicate he was a threat to himself or others.
