I'll admit that I am not perfect...though I am closer than my wife will admit. But at least I am trying to teach my kids how to be courteous. At the store the other day my son was holding open the door for a group of people and one of the teenage kids pushed him out of the way and didn't say thank you or sorry! Have we lost all courtesy? Is this what our parents taught us?

I remember growing up and learning some very important life lessons. Some of them seemed odd at the time but are beginning to make more sense now. Thanks mom and dad.

Does courtesy or chivalry have an expiration date? My parents taught me that when you drop somebody off at their house that you wait until they are inside before you drive off. If you are invited to someone's house for a party - you bring a gift or food. If it isn't yours - don't touch it. This applies to possessions, pets and even pregnant lady bellies! And of course to push your chair in when you get up from the table.

Each day I see a failure to follow one of these rules. Do they no longer apply? Is there a lesson your parents taught you that no longer applies?
