It makes you wonder what people expect sometimes. You would think that if someone is traveling to Craters Of The Moon National Monument, they would have at least a slight idea of what the rocks look like. As it turns out, sometimes that is not the case.

You really need to read the reviews on TripAdvisor to believe it for yourself. There are a grand total of 4 reviewers that have rated Craters as "Poor", and several of them are hilarious.

First up is reviewer LetsTravelForFun. Here's part of what they had to say:

Everything is color dark grey, black, or brown.
It feels like being in a different planet. Moon perhaps? We saw it as a different view, quite depressing feeling not we are not in an adventure mood to walk around and wonder what behind or under the stone.

Then, there's Teresa_P_Reid who also didn't care for the color of the volcanic rock:

Having just been to Yellowstone, this was a bit of a disappointment. Just a lot of dark rock for miles and miles.

I like to think of myself as a helpful kind of person. So, for TripAdvisor user LetsTravelForFun and Teresa_P_Reid, here's a little lesson on how volcanic rock is formed and why it's dark.

I cast no stones (yes sir, that's a rock pun there) at these folks for not understanding that when you go to a national monument full of volcanic rock, it will be a little dark sometimes. But, you might want to try that neat little Google search thing on your computer before you travel there. I only say that because I want to be helpful.
