As we approach our great nation's 239th birthday, it seems national pride is on the decline. But how patriotic is Idaho? A recent survey revealed how patriotic each state is, and ended up with quite a few surprises.

In 2011 38% of citizens claimed America was the "greatest country in the world," but in 2014 that number tumbled to 28%. According to WalletHub, Idaho ranks 4th on their list of the most patriotic states in America!

There were quite a few surprises on the list:

  • Texas came in at #33. I find that shocking.
  • Our sinful neighbor to the south, Nevada, landed with a thud at #39.
  • And the least patriotic state is... New York.

Upon hearing the news, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo remarked, "America is still a 'ting?"

To come up with their rankings, the website compared two key dimensions, military engagement, and civic engagement. Then, they compiled 8 different metrics like the number of enlisted military personnel, the number of veterans, voting percentage and volunteer rate and more.

Idaho did respectably in both areas, ranking 11th in Military Engagement, and 10th in Civic Engagement.

So what is the most patriotic state according to the survey?
