BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's Republican politicians are lashing out against President Barack Obama's plans to spare nearly 5 million people living in the U.S. illegally from deportation.

GOP U.S. Reps. Mike Simpson and Raul Labrador called the president's executive order illegal, and urged Congress to defend the U.S. Constitution. Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo has called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to consider legislation to prohibit the president from implementing the reforms.

Under Obama's plan, deportation protections would be extended to parents of U.S. citizens and permanent residents who have lived in the country at least five years. According to the Washington D.C.-based Migration Policy Institute, nearly 34,000 immigrants were living illegally in Idaho in 2012, and more than 75 percent of those had lived in Idaho for more than five years.
