How did Idaho do? Don't look for us in the top 10. Or, the top 20.

Idaho landed at a very middle-of-the-road #22 thanks to a higher-than-average effective tax rate for people of early retirement age.

There is a tiny bit of good news in all of this. According to this map, Rupert is listed as one of the most tax-friendly places in the Magic Valley and Idaho overall is ranked as tax-friendly.
