Hey, did you know there was going to be an Inside Out sequel short included in the film’s Blu-ray and DVD release? We didn’t either! But there’s going to one and the first clip from the short, titled “Riley’s First Date,” is online and everything.

The title tells you everything you need to know about this one. The boy that 12-year old Riley met at the hockey rink at the end of the film is back and her parents (once again voiced by Kyle MacLachlan and Diane Lane) aren’t very happy about their little girl going on her first outing with a member of the opposite sex. Like Inside Out itself, the short seems to take this mundane event and transform it into a matter of life and death for the emotions that inhabit the minds of each character.

If “Riley’s First Date” follows the pattern established by most Pixar feature companion shorts (like “Mike’s New Car,” “Jack-Jack Attack,” “BURN-E,” etc), it’ll be a charming additional outing with characters we like, although the shorter running time won’t allow for quite as much emotional battering. And that’s a good thing, because our souls are still a little sore from the last time we watched Inside Out.

Inside Out (and “Riley’s First Date”) arrives on home video on October 13.
