Jon Ster, a multi-instrumentalist with Lillian Axe (and pictured above second from the right), has died after suffering a heart attack in Dallas. He was 52.

He joined Lillian Axe in 1988 as the New Orleans-based glam metal band gathered for its self-titled debut, which was produced by Robbin Crosby of Ratt. Ster continued with the group through to its breakup in the mid-'90s, playing on 1989’s 'Love + War,' 1992’s 'Poetic Justice' and 1993’s 'Psychoschizophrenia.' Their songs 'Dream of a Lifetime' and 'Show a Little Love' earned airtime on MTV.

“He was solid, a great guitarist, played keys, sang well and beyond all else, he was a star," former bandmate Steve Blaze said on Facebook. "He made people laugh, smile and want to be around him. Over the last few years, even when I only saw him occasionally, we always picked up where we left off, laughing, smiling, and telling the many stories from our 12 years together in Lillian Axe."

In 2010, Lillian Axe became the first hard-rock act to be inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. By then, they'd reformed without Ster and released an acoustic live album earlier this year called 'One Night in the Temple.' Only Blaze remains from the original lineup.

“I never heard or saw him in a bad mood," Blaze added. "He never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He loved being on the road, and he loved everything to do with playing music. He was the guy everyone wanted to hang out with after the show."
