BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Police in southwestern Idaho say a 70-year-old Nampa man shot and killed his wife before killing himself earlier this week.

Police found the bodies of Melvin James Baptie and 68-year-old Karen Sue Baptie in their home on Tuesday. The officers were performing a welfare check at the request of a co-worker, who was worried after one of the Bapties didn't show up for work.

Nampa Sgt. Joe Ramirez said there was no sign of a struggle inside the home, and that both Bapties died of gunshot wounds. The deaths are still under investigation, and police say the motive for the apparent murder-suicide remains unclear.
