New Ranking Claims Idaho Not a Good Place for Women in 2017

Due to the fact that I'm a dude, I can't tell you that I understand what it's like to be a woman in Idaho. But, according to a new ranking that was just released, we're not going to win any man points for how women are treated here.

The study comes from a moving website called MoveHub. They ranked each state by the following criteria.

...gender pay gap, political representation in the state legislature, equality in education, accessibility to health insurance, reproductive rights and the number of incidents of violence against women at the hands of men.

Overall, Idaho comes in at a not very good #32. But, I decided to dig deeper.

Whenever I see any type of ranking, the factors they use to do the list are crucial. Several of these listed metrics make sense. Gender pay gap, number of women in the state legislature and violence against women are obviously crucial to a woman's quality of life anywhere. But, when I see vague categories like equality in education and accessibility to health insurance, I wonder what motivations this list is coming from. The reproductive rights category also tells me that this is more than likely coming from an organization with an agenda.

Don't get me wrong. Making sure women are treated fairly and protected from violence should (in my opinion) be a priority for any state. But, don't put down my state just because a majority of us here don't agree with your position on abortion.
