SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new website from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will allow people to find out whether their ancestors interacted with church founder Joseph Smith.

The new site is a collaboration between church-funded genealogy service FamilySearch.org and the Joseph Smith Papers Project, which has been digitizing the founder's records. It compares a person's family tree from Family Search with the names mentioned in Smith's papers, most of which were about people, and also displays the original historical documents.

LDS Church History Department officials say in a statement that the Joseph Smith Papers Project is ongoing, and will publish documents created by Smith of his staff, including journals, revelations, correspondence and businesses and legal records.
