Popular Elk Tags Go on Sale in Early July

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is expecting a high demand for elk tags this year. The tags go on sale in early July.

"Last year, resident Sawtooth Zone A and B tags sold out in less than an hour,” Michael Pearson, Fish and Game administration bureau chief, said in a prepared statement. “We’ve changed the sale in attempts to allocate the tags in a more equitable way for hunters, but there will likely be higher demand than tags available.”

Due to the high demand the department has changed the way it’ll sell the tags this year.

Resident capped elk tags this year will go on sale at 10 a.m. July 10 at licensed vendors and Fish and Games offices, while the Sawtooth A and B elk tags will go on sale two days later, July 12. Half the tags that day will be sold starting at 10 a.m. at licensed vendors, while the remaining tags will be sold beginning at 1 p.m. online.

“Fish and Game officials adjusted the sale of the capped zone tags to give equal access for in-person sales at vendors and those who prefer to buy tags online,” reads the news release.

License and tag buyers who purchase online are reminded that Fish and Game added security measures, which require the buyer to establish a unique account with a user name and password. Before tags go on sale, hunters are also encouraged to buy their hunting license, set up their online account in advance and remember their password.
