This report did not come as a surprise to me. Idaho is ranked among the worst states in the country when it comes to bringing the hammer down on risky drivers.

When I saw that Wallet Hub had ranked the states on how they treat dangerous drivers, I had a hunch that Idaho did not fare well before I even looked at the map. But, my belief was based on "feelings" and not "facts". The facts that Wallet Hub used are an interesting cross-section of angles that affect how people drive. DUI penalties and prevention, speed enforcement and reckless driving punishment were the major issues factored into this.

With all that in mind, here is the map showing the results.

As you can see, Idaho came in at #39. Considering that's out of 51, not a good result.

What to do about this? They theorize that ride-assist services like Uber might help people who would otherwise drink and drive avoid problems. I find it hard to believe that will make much of a difference since there have always been taxis available.

Based on how people drive in Twin Falls, I don't think this would improve even if you took vehicles away and made people drive tricycles. But, I would be in favor of that since it would at least be funny.

Do you have any ideas or is Idaho just doomed to keep repeating this bad driver reputation?
