If you have ever been to a summer camp - you know that the camp counselors are not extremely trained in what to do in every situation, mine were all punk teenage kids who needed sumer cash...but that is what made camp so cool.  It added a little extra sense of adventure to it.  But, it also turns out that is not the safest way to run a program.

Ahead of summer camp season, the New York State Health Department has released a list of children's activities that have a, quote, "significant risk of injury."  The list includes including kickball, Wiffle ball, freeze tag, capture the flag, and red rover.  Shouldn't they just say "Summer Camp Is Hazardous To Your Child's Health"?  When I send my kid on a camp, I want him to be safe...but I want him to have a new experience and have fun.  If that means he gets a few scratches, a bloody nose, and bug bits...then so be it.  I'm still not certain on how Freeze tag and red rover actually pose a risk of injury...but kids are crazy, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear a of a freak Red rover accident.
