TWIN FALLS, Idaho (News Release) – The Twin Falls City Council is encouraging anyone who is interested in serving on the Twin Falls City Council to attend Twin Falls City Council meetings to learn more about the ongoing budget, strategic planning, and comprehensive planning process.

With several significant planning documents expected to be implemented — and with the potential for a council seat to be up for appointment — the council is encouraging interested individuals to get involved as soon as possible.

One city council seat may be up for appointment in January 2017, depending on the outcome of the Twin Falls County election in November 2016. That seat is currently held by Councilman Don Hall, who is running unopposed for Twin Falls County Commissioner.

If elected as a Twin Falls County Commissioner, Hall has said he plans to resign his seat on the Twin Falls City Council in January of 2017. As required by city code, the mayor, with the assistance of city council members, will appoint a replacement for the remainder of Hall’s term, which will expire in January 2018.

A formal application process will be announced following the November election. After the term ends, the appointed council member may choose to run for re-election, or may step down from the city council position.

“Although it’s too soon to know if the council seat will be up for appointment, we — as a city — will be implementing several significant documents that staff and council have been developing for more than a year,” said Mayor Shawn Barigar.

“Our hope is that if a citizen is interested in being considered for future appointment to the council seat, that they will become educated about the ongoing work of the city.”
