JARBIDGE, Nv. (KMVT/KSVT) A family outing turned tragic over the weekend in the mountain area of the Jarbidge Nevada. Elko County undersheriff Clair Morris said Dylan Thompson, 17, was driving a Toyota 4-runner when he lost control, rolling down a steep ravine.

The road is not maintained. Morris described it as a trail. The day started when, earlier. the family agreed to meet at a designated point higher up on a mountain. When Dylan didn’t arrive, the group backtracked, finding that he had been ejected when his vehicle rolled.

The accident happened around 4:00 P.M. Saturday, but the sheriff’s office wasn’t notified until about 10:00 P.M. Cell phone service is rather sparse in the area, Morris said. The group didn’t find phone service until they were on the Idaho side of the Jarbidge area. The call was picked up by the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office, who determined the accident actually happened in Elko, Nevada.

Meanwhile the family transported Dylan to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls where it was determined the victim had succumbed to his injuries. Those investigating the accident said that no alcohol was involved and there was no foul play. No charges will be filed in the case, Morris said.
