Twin Falls Farmers Market Opens Saturday

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Sabrina Davis started selling jellies and jams at the Twin Falls Farmers Market in 2012. Five years later, she serves as the market president.

“We’re like family,” she said of the vendors, many who, like Davis, return every year to sell homegrown produce and homemade crafts. The market also gives them a chance to reacquaint with old friends.

Davis is once more looking forward to working with her market family starting this Saturday, May 13. It’s the first day of this year’s Twin Falls Farmers Market – and Davis says there are lots of things to look forward to.

The market will open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 28.

Besides the usual assortment of fresh fruits and veggies – "produce is coming slowly," she said, but it's coming – there’ll be an array of crafts including jewelry and pottery. Among the other items are cotton candy, kettle corn and pizza; chainsaw-carved bears and furniture made out of wooden pallets. And lots more, Davis said, including flowers for Mother's Day.

Around 55 vendors are currently signed up for the market, she said, but there’s always room for more. The months of July and September are the market’s busiest, with vendor numbers often reaching between 75 and 85.

“It’s amazing what you’ll find,” she said. “If you come out one week and don’t find what you’re looking for, come again the next week. There’s new stuff every week.”

The University of Idaho and the Twin Falls Public Library are among the organizations that will join the market for activities. UI will give lessons on growing different kinds of plants, while the library will have fun interactive activities for young people.

“There’ll be something for kids of all ages,” Davis said.

The market also will host an appreciation day for veterans, and before it closes in October there’ll be a Halloween-themed market day.

If you’re a member of 4-H or Future Farmers of America, well, there’s even some things the market is willing to do to help out.

“We support these groups. They are part of our community,” Davis said. “Farmers, that’s who we are, what we are made of.”

The market is located at Breckenridge Endowment Farms, owned by the College of Southern Idaho, on Fillmore Street off North College Road. CSI has been a crucial partner over the years, she said.
