ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Elko County commissioners say the state's ballot question to increase fuel taxes is worse for rural Nevada than urban parts of the state.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports that Assemblyman John Ellison, R-Elko, told commissioners he voted against the bill mandating the ballot question because it's a "bad deal" for rural counties. Ellison and commissioners say they worry the state will punish counties that don't pass the bill by not funding roads in those areas.

The ballot measure would ask voters to approve a gas tax increase based on inflation. If it passes, the money would be held by the state to be used on state highways in the county that generated the tax. The County approved developing committees to write pro and con statements regarding the measure.
