(KLIX) – Welcome to October. Now let’s cut to the chase: you have only a couple of more weeks to file your 2018 state income tax return.

Those who qualified earlier this year for an extension to file have only until Oct. 15 to do so, according to the Idaho State Tax Commission.

“We expect to receive about 37,000 individual income tax returns in October,” Tax Commission Chairman Tom Harris said in a statement. “This is in addition to the 854,000 returns we’ve received so far this year.”

Idaho law allows taxpayers to avoid a penalty for filing a late return if the taxpayer has an extension. But according to the Tax Commission, those individuals must pay 5 percent interest on any tax that was due and not paid by April 15.
