TWIN FALLS, Idaho – Local astronomy buffs will like February at the Faulkner Planetarium. Several events are planned throughout the month, including a program that takes viewers to the far reaches of our solar system.

Called the “Edge of Darkness,” the program lets visitors view places never seen previous to 2015 missions that culminated with the New Horizon spacecraft making a pass by Pluto. The program, according to the CSI news release, is scheduled for 7 p.m. every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, with a second showing at 2:30 p.m. Saturdays.

The planetarium, located on the College of Southern Idaho campus at the Herrett Center for Arts and Science, is currently the only facility in the world showing the new program, according to the news release. It was designed by the Evans and Sutherland Company in Salt Lake City and voiced by actress Hayley Atwell. Each showing will be followed by the latest images from New Horizon and a live sky tour on the planetarium’s 50-foot dome.

Other programs for the month include:

  • “Perfect Little Planet,” a show aimed at younger viewers, shows at 1:30 p.m. Saturdays
  • "The Longest Night: A Winter’s Tale,” designed for family viewing, shows at 3:30 p.m. Saturdays
  • ”Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Tale,” one of the newest IMAX programs by National Geographic, visualizing what ancient ocean life, shows at 4:30 p.m. Saturdays
  • ”Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West,” another National Geographic production and narrated by Jeff Bridges, shows at 8 p.m. Saturdays.
  • ”Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon,” the rock music entertainment program, shows at 8 p.m. Fridays.

Admission to the planetarium is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors age 60 and older, and $4 for children ages 2-17; children under 2 are admitted free. For more information: www.csi.edu/herrett or 732-6655.
