How to Make Ice Cream and Other Treats Out of Snow
As we head into snow season in Idaho, here are some ways you can make ice cream and other delicious treats out of snow.
Snow Ice Cream
Snow Ice Cream is really simple. Recipes vary. Here's one of the easiest recipes we found.
- 8 cups of clean snow (We recommend you avoid yellow snow.)
- 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Mix well until you've got ice cream. Feel free to add fruit or chocolate for flavor variety.
Maple Taffy
- Real maple syrup
- Snow
- Cooking thermometer
Spread the snow onto a platter or cookie sheet. Heat the maple syrup and boil to 235 degrees Fahrenheit.
Pour the hot syrup over the snow and wrap it around sticks for maple taffy pops.
Snow Margaritas
- Tequila
- Limes
- Margarita mix
- Snow
This is for the grown-ups. You pretty much take all the ingredients you would use to make a regular margarita but go a little heavier on the mix because you'll be watering down the mixture when you add snow. Once you've mixed the tequila and mix, add it to a shaker along with a big handful of snow. Shake well.
