BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho State Board of Education is optimistic that 60 percent of Idaho's young adults will have either a college degree or certificate by 2020.

The board set the goal in 2010. However, six years later, only 40 percent of Idahoans between the ages of 25 and 34 have a post-secondary degree or certificate. According to a study released by Georgetown University, 68 percent of Idaho's jobs will require a post-secondary degree by 2020.

Board spokesman Blake Youde, says board will consider the goal in every action they take while meeting Wednesday and Thursday. The board plans to reach the goal through streamlining college applications, boosting financial aid and scholarships and monitoring tuition hikes.

Multiple economic and education officials have warned that Idaho needs a better-educated workforce to meet future job demands throughout the state.
