School is starting soon around the Gem State, and while it seems like summer vacation just began, it will be over in the coming days and weeks. The days of kids sleeping in, playing video games, and causing you to lock yourself in the bathroom for a few minutes away from the insanity are almost over. Some parents will be sad to see their kids start school again, while others have been counting down the days to have a quiet household during the day. It is always exciting when a new school year begins, and there are a few changes that parents need to know before the first day of classes starts.

As school gets underway, it is important to remember to give yourself extra time getting to work as school buses will be stopping, children will be crossing the road, and there will be more traffic out in the morning. This is a reminder for parents and even for those who don't have school-aged children, as it can affect your morning routine and schedule. Over the summer, some roads changed their speed limits, with HWY 30 in Filer being the most notorious. While officers have been mostly issuing warnings for the last couple of months, with school in session, they will be increasing their monitoring of the roads to make sure everyone is safe. Give yourself extra time if going through this area or if your child attends a school in Filer, as it could slow you down in the morning.

Breakfast and lunch at school are often a popular topic during the summer, as parents wonder why kids have to pay for meals when their children are forced to go to school. While some schools have had this program, some new ones will offer free breakfast and lunch this year, making things easier on parents and making sure their children are fed properly at school. For some, this won't matter as their child may still prefer to take their lunch, but for others, this is a major deal. If your child attends a school in Twin Falls, you can click this link to see if their school is one of the ones that offers free meals. Elsewhere in the Magic Valley, Buhl will begin offering free meals this year.

Make sure to be cautious and make the proper adjustments to your morning routine as school will soon be back in session, and it can throw off your morning schedule. For more on the change in speed limits or free lunches and breakfasts, make sure to click the proper links above. It's almost here. School is back, and so is the chaos that comes with it.
