The fourth of July recently passed, and now there are no other holidays to look forward to for a little bit. It is time to get out and enjoy summer, and if you want to take some time off, you will likely have to use your paid time off, also known as PTO. Most are focused on summer break for their children, escaping the heat by going to the lake or river on weekends, or trying to take a summer vacation before school starts back up next month. While nearly everyone is celebrating summer right now, stores are thinking differently. Now is the time to start thinking about Halloween and start shopping for the holiday, despite it being the middle of summer.

Halloween is more than a quarter of the calendar away, with three and a half months to go until the spooky holiday, but stores have begun to put out Halloween gear already. The thought of buying skeletons, pumpkins, or putting on a Halloween costume while it is triple digits outside may seem absurd, but not to Costco. Costco stores have begun rolling out Halloween costumes, and while the rest of the decorations haven't been put on display yet, they likely are in the back, ready to hit the shelves in the coming weeks. With Labor Day still being a month and a half awayand Halloween not happening until eight weeks after that, it raises the question of whether it is too soon to have Halloween costumes out on display?

Many would agree that three and a half months is far too soon to be thinking about Halloween, but with no other major holidays until then, you can't blame stores for wanting to get ahead of the competition and get a few things out. If now is too soon, when is the right time to begin focusing on Halloween? Is it when school starts back up in August? Is it after Labor Day at the beginning of September? Is it in October when most people are decorating and thinking about fall? Does the temperature matter? It is tough to focus on Halloween when the temperatures have many flocking to pools, rivers, and lakes and wearing bathing suits, and not thinking about costumes. Does it have to feel like fall outside to start thinking about one of the most popular holidays?
