For Idaho movie lovers, would you have guessed that the highest-grossing film of last year was going to be Barbie? Idaho men might have more in common with Barbie's counterpart Ken than they might realize, and I'll explain why.

Now just wait a minute! Hear me out, dudes. For those guys who got dragged to the Barbie movie like I did, one has to admit that $1.4 billion is an awful lot of moolah. It was the number one film in the world and smoked both Oppenheimer and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It wasn't the worst film in my opinion; that distinction belongs to Mama Mia!

In the Barbie movie, the only thing Ken was any good at was "Beaching." This basically requires standing at the beach with a surfboard in hand, shirt unbuttoned, and doing everything possible to impress Barbie.

I've seen Barbie THREE times! My son and I accompanied my wife to the movie for the first time. Then, her family visited us and we watched it on PLEX not once, but twice. I will admit, the last two viewings were much more painful than the first. Ryan Gosling's Ken character cracked me up, which is why I was able to pull off a Barbie-viewing trifecta.

There is no shortage of Idaho dudes who have this facade as being burley, full-bearded, dirt bike-riding, hunting, and travel trailer-pulling manly men. In the Barbie movie, the only thing Ken was any good at was "Beaching." This basically requires standing at the beach with a surfboard in hand, shirt unbuttoned, and doing everything possible to impress Barbie.

"Beaching off" was the expression that was given to describe when two Kens faced off against one another on the sand in front of all the Barbies. Ken ultimately went on a California adventure with Barbie so he could protect her...at least in his mind.

Ken was a character who took delight in impressing people, was competitive, was often overshadowed by his female counterpart, had a sensitive side but didn't like to show it, was smart enough to eventually realize that patriarchy shouldn't be forced, and was jobless. So, minus the jobless part, I think most men can relate to a Ken.
