The one day of the year when Idaho families can pack fishing poles and head to state rivers and lakes without needing permits to reel in monster catches is rapidly approaching. It's time to plan for Idaho's free fishing day!

May is a great time to start inspecting and readying boats to get out on the water with the family soon. The weather might not be ideal for fishing right now in southern Idaho, but it sure will be soon.

Remember, it's illegal to fish on days when the activity is not offered without the presence of a permit, and you could be fined if caught. Visit the Idaho Fish and Game licences page to find out how to obtain one for the remainder of the season.

Be sure to pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and snacks on June 14, when Idaho's free fishing day comes around, and have fun.
