Every time someone brings up a "bucket list" experience, one thing comes to my mind. Before I die, I've got to see the Northern Lights from an incredible vantage point.

It is said the best countries to witness the Northern Lights (aka Aurora Borealis) are Norway, Sweden, and Iceland. Occasionally, those of us in the United States get a glimpse of what happens when electrically-charged particles interact with our atmosphere and the sun. Alaska is also supposed to be a pretty good place to view it from.

Northern Lights made national news this week as they were seen in more than 30 states in the country, according to information published by USA Today. Several videos were shared on social media in the past 48 hours in states like California, Nevada and Idaho as well. One Twin Falls resident got some fantastic time-lapse footage of the incredible lights produced by this clash between electricity and gas.

I totally missed the boat as far as this week's Northern Lights display. Maybe I've been paying too much attention to hockey and basketball playoffs to have followed this developing situation. I guess I'll live vicariously through the videos of others this week.

There will be a time when I stare up at those lights next to a roaring fire with a glass of whiskey in my hand. If I have to fly to Siberia, I will.

Thanks to this southern Idaho resident for sharing this great video.
