Three years ago, my wife and I took the steps to become Foster Parents. Almost immediately after finishing the training, and because of the classes, we were able to adopt a newborn boy! While the goal of foster care is to eventually reunite the children with their parents once the parent is fit to take care of them, there are a few sad cases where that isn't possible. This Friday, you can find out more info on how you can become a foster parent or help in other ways, join the Magic Valley Youth and Adult Services this Friday at the Twin Falls courthouse by the rose garden for a special presentation and informational event.

Foster care provides a short term placement for youth in protective services while birth parents get their lives back on track. In South Central Idaho, there are about 280 youth in foster care. The average length of stay is 5.3 months and nearly 80% of youth are reunited with their parent(s).

The foster program in South Central Idaho is currently in need of caring, patient people (single or married) who will become a foster parent for youth 10 and older, provide room for siblings groups and/or have bilingual skills.

The inquiry through training process provides an opportunity for mutual assessment; where you can freely assess the foster program, our supports and the challenges/ rewards of being a foster parent while Child Protective Services also assesses your skills and viability as a foster parent.
