Happy Independence Day! Wait-a-minute... Wasn't Independence on the 4th of July? Well, in my neighborhood it's been an ongoing celebration and it's time to end it.

If you’re still launching fireworks, not only are you violating city code, you’re just being a bad neighbor."

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Independence Day as much any other red blooded American. I cannot tell you how blessed I am to live in the United States. I love living in this country and I appreciate all the freedoms that come with it.

That said, enough with the fireworks already. I'll save the argument that your fireworks are more of an excuse to blow things up than actually "celebrate" our independence for another day. At the moment, I simply wish to call those of you out who think that you have the right to blow crap up "for as long as you good and well please."  Breaking news: You don't.

Twin Falls City Code 6-9-1: ... [fireworks] are allowed to be used each year only on June 23 through July 5 and December 26 through January 1 between the hours of 8 A.M. to 12 A.M. midnight.  Use of any of these fireworks outside of these dates and times can result in civil penalties of up to $156.50 per offense.

If you're still launching fireworks, not only are you violating city code, you're just being a bad neighbor.

Feel free to call me a sour, old man on this one. I'll own it. Maybe it's because I have to wake up in the morning and work. Perhaps I'm jealous because you have the financial freedom to NOT have to wake up and work the next day. Maybe you work the swing shift and 2am is your time to boogie. Maybe you're between jobs because you're holding out for a "management position."  Whatever your reasons for being up at 2am, lighting off fireworks, this is my formal request asking you to please stop.

I have a mower and I have absolutely no problems mowing my grass at 6am on a Saturday. Sleep tight.
