Pennsylvania Resident Returns to Idaho Over Gun Rights Case

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A former Idaho man is trying to convince the state of Pennsylvania that he should be allowed to own a gun, and the issue has brought him back west to argue his case in Idaho Supreme Court.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Todd Rich was convicted of rape in Idaho in 1992, a felony that comes with a permanent loss of gun rights. His conviction was reduced to a misdemeanor through a 2004 sentencing agreement. He now lives in Pennsylvania, where a judge has ruled that he cannot own a gun because of the rape conviction.

Rich then filed suit in Idaho, asking for a judge to declare that he still has gun rights in that state. But a district court dismissed the suit, saying Rich has no standing to sue. He challenged that ruling in court Tuesday.
