HANSEN, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – A power outage in Hansen Saturday night which left more than one hundred residents without electricity is also to blame for a boil advisory.

According to Shawn Moffitt, Project Manager at CH2M who oversees the water department for the city of Hansen, Hansen residents need to boil their water.

Around 11 p.m. Saturday night when the power went out in Hansen, it caused the water pressure to drop in the distribution system.

A drop in water pressure is a signal of the existence of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through backflow, by backpressure, or back-siphonage.

As a result, there is an increased chance that the drinking water may contain disease-causing organisms.

A bacteria test will be conducted Monday morning, results should take 24 hours to be returned.

Then they will either lift the boil advisory or extend it.
