Small Idaho City Totes Not-A-Gun-Free Zone Message
GREENLEAF, Idaho (AP) — People arriving in Greenleaf, Idaho may soon be greeted by the message that the small city is not a gun-free zone.
City Councilman Steven Jett and two anonymous companies donated five signs welcoming visitors to a city that isn't gun free. KBOI-TV reports city officials are waiting on transportation department approval before installing the signs.
Jett told the Idaho Press-Tribune that in a small town without a police force, it's important for residents to know how to use guns. Greenleaf relies on the Wilder Police Department.
He said gun-free zones like schools have been the sites of shootings in the past, and the signs send a message that the town isn't a target.
Signs cite a city ordinance passed in 2006 encouraging eligible gun owners to seek proper training.
