Just days after announcing its new senior hours aimed at keeping those at high risk from the Coronavirus in a safe, less-populated shopping atmosphere, Fred Meyer is now going to be limiting the amount of customers that can be in the store at the same time.

Kroger, the parent company of Fred Meyer, announced this week that all stores will be monitoring its customers in an effort to keep the number of shoppers at less than half the store's capacity, according to details shared by bizjournals.com.on April 6, 2020. Fred Meyer stores are located throughout the western United States, in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska primarily. Groceries, electronics, clothes, home goods, gardening and furniture are all sold at the superstores.

In late-March, Fred Meyer began offering early morning shopping times exclusively for the senior population, which cuts down the risk of contracting COVID-19. The majority of U.S. deaths due to complications from the virus, which now totals well over 12,000, are from those over the age of 65.

The store will be enforcing a one person / per 120 foot distance in an effort to end the spread of the virus, according to bizjournals.com. Roughly 375,000 Americans have been infected to date. Worldwide, there are approximately 1.4 million people infected, resulting in more than 82,000 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging U.S. citizens to continue practicing social-distancing, keep hands clean through sanitizing and washing with soap and warm water, avoid people who appear sick and closely monitor yourself for symptoms that include a fever, chills, cough and difficulty breathing.
