This was the first execution in Idaho in 17 years. Things did not go as planned. The execution was delayed about 55 minutes while a 4th District Court Judge examined a last minute appeal. Following the judge’s decision, the countdown began again for the execution of Paul Ezra Rhoades. The original execution time was 8:10 a.m. But instead, Rhoades was declared dead at 9:15 a.m. after the delay.
