The Shoshone Falls in Idaho are Now Closed Off to Cars and Pedestrians
A third update has been issued by the City of Twin Falls and the Twin Falls Parks and Rec regarding access to the Shoshone Falls Park. Water on the roadway has caused conditions to become unsafe for any type of travel in the area.
Access to the Shoshone Falls and the park area will be closed indefinitely as crews work on a solution.
All Access Closed to Shoshone Falls Park Due to Water on Roadway
In the initial report regarding the conditions of the road on October 10th, we learned that a small waterfall along the edge of the road was experiencing an unusually high flow of water from Dierkes Lake, causing dangerous conditions to visitors and damage to the road. For a brief moment, access was reopened and then quickly closed again. A second report on October 29th stated that the road was once again closed to vehicle traffic and that visitors could park above the closure and walk down to the waterfall and park area.
The latest update, issued on November 3rd, informs us that the park is now completely closed off to vehicle and pedestrian access. The road has become too dangerous for anyone to cross safely. In an alert from late October on the City of Twin Falls website, it states:
To prevent damage to the Shoshone Falls Grade, parks crews have used sandbags and tarps to channel the water over the roadway. These need to stay in place to prevent roadway erosion or damage. It is also unsafe at points for pedestrians to be crossing the tarps and sandbags.
A new post was also shared on Facebook regarding the closure and the need for visitors to obey the closure.
I was down there yesterday fishing at Dierkes and saw people still parking along the roadway and walking down to the park and waterfall. The City of Twin Falls is urging people to not do that until further notice is given that the roadway has become safe for crossing.
