Blue Lakes: nobody loves driving it but, we all have to drive on it. Blue Lakes as a road isn't actually bad. It's wide enough for 4 lanes and a turning lane, the road is smooth, and there are loads of great businesses and restaurants lining it.

The real problem with Blue Lakes is us. The problem is the amount of drivers and how each of them drives their vehicle. Here are 5 rules for driving on Blue Lakes that will make driving on it better for all.

NEVER ATTEMPT A LEFT TURN UNLESS AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A LIGHT

This is the number one thing to know when traveling along Blue Lakes. No matter what - never attempt a left turn. You may have the luck of the Irish and eventually make it across the oncoming traffic lanes, but you will definitely be waiting for a long time. The only exception is at 11pm and there are no other cars on the road.

USE YOUR BLINKER

Fun Fact - there is no 'blinker fluid', either your bulb is burnt out or you are just being lazy. If you don't signal, I'm not going to assume you are trying to get over. Therefore you will not get over.

THE CENTER LANE IS NOT A PASSING LANE

I kid you not - last week I was in the left lane between Filer and Falls in front of the Cricket Wireless store and a truck got in the center lane and drove all the way to Falls to turn left towards the college.

SPEED LIMIT IS 35 MPH

I know everyone has their opinion on what a speed limit means. I guarantee you this though - 25 is not an acceptable speed for Blue Lakes travel. Remember Blue Lake is also Highway 93...a highway. So either get a move on it or get off.

I should also mention that 50 mph is also not 35, so riding the tail of the car in front of you is also unacceptable.

IF YOU HAVE A GREEN ARROW - GO!

You can refer to the first point we made about turning left being near impossible. The acceptable exception is at an intersection with a stoplight. That being said, when you do get that magical green arrow to make the mythical left turn on Blue Lakes, by all that is holy PLEASE GO! The worst is being in a line waiting to turn left and the genius in front of you waits 10 seconds to go. Stop driving distracted and pay attention to those lights.
