The annual star party at Pomerelle has arrived...there will be great views of the sun, stars, and the moon. And this year they have a port-a-potty on the top of the mountain!

The Herrett Center’s annual Dark Sky Star Parties are scheduled for Saturday, July 21st at Pomerelle Mountain and Friday, August 17th at the City of Rocks. The Pomerelle party will start with solar viewing and water-bottle rockets from 3 to 5:30 p.m. A night sky talk will start at 7:30 p.m. The chairlift to the mountain top will begin at 8:30 p.m. Telescope viewing will go until midnight. Everything is free except for the chairlift ride which is just $8 for adults, under 6 is free with a parent. The City of Rocks party on August 17 will be at the Smoky Mountain Campground at Castle Rocks State Park, which is adjacent to the City of Rocks. There will be solar viewing from 2 to 6 p.m. Nighttime viewing will be from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Ranch House site. Park entry fees apply for overnight campers, otherwise the event is free of charge.
