This has been an active earthquake week at Yellowstone. Remember the small swarm that hit the park earlier this week? Tonight, there's been an even larger quake that has just occurred.
It's been a little quiet on the earthquake front in our part of America lately. But, no longer. An earthquake just occurred that was centered squarely in Elko, Nevada.
This earthquake was not large. In fact, it probably wouldn't even rearrange your china if you were sitting right on top of the epicenter. But, it did happen very near Challis, Idaho.

There have been several rather tiny quakes that have happened in the general vicinity of Yellowstone National Park over the last couple weeks. But, this shaker was bigger than those and happened way closer to Idaho than the others.
This has not been a good day for earthquakes. First, Japan was struck by a major quake and now, another quake has occurred near the Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park.
There has just been a relatively small earthquake north of Boise. According to the USGS, the quake was located around 20 km to the southwest of Cascade, Idaho.
