Affordable Care Act “Obamacare” Deadline is Tonight

BOISE (KTVB) -- Monday night marks the deadline to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

Idahoans have until 10 p.m. MT to pick a plan or at least start the process to avoid facing a tax penalty.

Millions of people have piled onto online exchange sites in the last days, and the federal government said as of last week, six million people had applied for insurance.

Many people trying to apply and enroll for private health insurance Monday before the deadline discovered the website was "currently unavailable."

The site later appeared to be operating, but it was putting customers in a "queue," meaning they'd be notified by email when they could continue with enrollment.

Tech experts have been working to resolve any issues, but high volume is expected throughout the day.

The Obama administration announced an extension for those who had started an application by Monday but didn't finish, perhaps because of errors, missing information or website glitches.
