KETCHUM, Idaho (KLIX) – Whoever said that wildflower walks were only for viewing wildflowers?

On Sept. 9 – the last trip of the Sawtooth Botanical Garden’s summer Wildflower Walk series – participants will explore big trees in central Idaho.

The event, planned from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will take participants on easy to moderate hikes to study and take measurements of trees that will be submitted to the Idaho Big Tree program run by the University of Idaho.

Rain or shine, the intrepid field leaders – John Shelly, retired Forest Service land manager and INPS chapter president; Lisa Horton, botanist and INPS chapter vice-president; and Kristin Fletcher, Sawtooth Botanical Garden education director – will go into the forests to study some of the region’s largest trees.

Want to come along?

The event is free, but make sure you bring the right stuff: water, lunch, sunscreen, hat and sturdy walking shoes suitable for getting wet are recommended. Meet at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden, about four miles south of Ketchum.
