A recent study has come out showing how much the average person in each city in Idaho pays in bills every month.

The results are surprising if you thought living in a small town would save you money.

Who Pays More on Bills in Idaho? Twin Falls or Boise

The information comes from the 2024 Cost of Bills Index Report on the Doxo website and was featured in a Business Insider story this week. The report shows how much the average household pays each month in bills. They include payments for mortgage or rent, utilities, vehicle loans, insurance, internet, and phone.

With those factors considered, people in Twin Falls are paying more each month than those in Boise. Twin Falls pays out $2,009 while Boise pays out $1,982 in monthly bills. That’s only a $27 difference, but still a surprise considering the size difference in each city. Boise has a population over 235,000 (closer to 600,000 if you include the surrounding cities of Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell). Twin Falls is just over 50,000 (with an additional 27,000 if you include surrounding small towns like Jerome, Kimberly, Buhl, Filer, and Hansen).

But the results aren’t horrible news for the small towns. One thing not included in the report is the amount of gasoline spent each month in commuting. Working in a big city requires more driving and more gas consumption, while I drive 2 minutes to and from work each day and it only takes about 10 minutes to drive from the south side to the north side of Twin Falls.

Additionally, overall monthly payments are below average compared to the rest of the United States. So, whether you live in Twin Falls, Boise, or Chubbuck you are still better off than most other places.
