A traffic stop for failure to use a turn signal on a Southern Idaho Highway turned into a police pursuit and was ended by the successful deployment of spike strips. Police found a variety of narcotics in the vehicle.

The incident involved a vehicle with California license plates and a driver from North Dakota.

Fentanyl, Meth, Cocaine, and Marijuana Seized Following Idaho Police Pursuit

The event began just before midnight on May 18th, when a Domestic Highway Enforcement (DHE) trooper initiated a traffic stop on a driver who had failed to use their turn signal while turning onto Interstate 15 near mile marker 74. The driver refused to stop, which led to a pursuit through a construction zone and into the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.

The report from the Idaho State Police states the following:

The pursuit continued through a construction zone, where traffic was diverted onto southbound U.S. Highway 91.

During the pursuit, the sedan used the right shoulder to pass several semi-trucks, struck a construction sign, and ignored directions from a construction flagging crew.

The vehicle continued toward the Fort Hall Indian Reservation, where the Fort Hall Police Department successfully deployed spike strips, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The driver was a 40-year-old man from Fargo, North Dakota. Inside the vehicle troopers found:

  • One pound of Fentanyl
  • Two pounds of meth
  • More than two pounds of cocaine
  • Half a pound of marijuana

The drugs were seized by DHE, and the driver was arrested and booked into the Bingham County Jail on probable cause for ‘trafficking fentanyl, trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, felony possession of marijuana, and felony eluding.’

The office of the governor recently announced that Operation No Return had identified 30 individuals to be deported from Idaho. The criminals are in the United States illegally and were all convicted of serious crimes that include drug possession and trafficking, child-related crimes, rape, manslaughter, assault, and other felonies.

These 30 criminal will be removed from Idaho, and the United States, and sent back to their countries of origin. These are the most dangerous on the list with felony, drug trafficking and possession charges, child related crimes, and assault convictions.
