Massive Butter Recall: I Can’t Believe Some People in CA Don’t Know There’s Milk in Cream
A huge butter recall has been issued for certain items sold at Costco and the reason may seem surprising to most people. But it may also be a real issue for others.
Costco Recalls Kirkland Butter Because It Contains Milk
Contrary to some reports, the recall is a voluntary action by Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC, not a mandatory one. CDFS makes the Kirkland butter mentioned in the recall. The recall is happening, not because the butter is bad or contains foreign materials, but due to a failure to disclose that the cream contains milk on the label.
One might assume that others know there’s milk in cream, but here we are.
Dairy allergies are real and can be a constant concern for those affected. Luckily, the recall is categorized as Class II, meaning it could cause ‘temporary or medically reversible’ issues. No deaths have been reported due to consumption of the butter and due to the low risk level a press release has not been issued, only an email notification to subscribers of FDA alerts would have been sent.

The recall includes 79,200 pounds of butter sold exclusively at Costco and specifics can be found on the FDA website. There are 137 Costco locations in California
