Do We Need An Asteroid Detection System

You guys remember the movie 'Armageddon' right? Ladies loved it and guys watched it because their ladies loved it. Pretty silly story though. Watch the movie if you want to know why I think it's silly (yes - just by watching it, you'll understand).

But the point of this story is, that while I mock the idea of killer asteroids, Brian May - the guitarist for Queen and also an astrophysicist and Bill Nye - The Science Guy, believe that we actually need to set up an asteroid detection system! Now I could attempt to mock them, I won't because I have no idea what's out there headed our way. So if they want to put Bruce Willis, Ben Afleck, Weird Nose Wilson, and the guy with the Bug Eyes on a space ship to try and save earth, then I'm cool with that.

Just let me know how the radio reception is out there in outer space.
