E-Bike Rider Killed in Idaho Highway Accident. ISP Investigating.

The Idaho State Police reported a fatal incident involving the rider of an electric-assist bike on Friday evening.

The bicycle rider was the only person involved in the accident.

Idaho State Police Investigating After E-Bike Rider Dies in Highway Accident

The accident is being investigated by the Idaho State Police and happened around 8:37 PM on Friday, June 26th, just inside the Bonner County line on Highway 41, close to mile marker 20. This information was taken from the ISP report:

• A 35-year-old male, from Spirit Lake, Idaho, was riding an electrically assisted bicycle when the rider lost control on the right shoulder and was thrown from the bicycle.
• The bicyclist was wearing a motorcycle-style helmet.

First responders attempted life-saving efforts, but the rider passed away from injuries sustained in the wreck. The report isn’t specific on how fast the rider was going, but the speed limit for vehicles on that section of highway is 60 miles per hour as you cross from Kootenai County into Bonner County. Heading in the other direction (south on Highway 41 as you enter Spirit Lake), the speed limit drops to 35 miles per hour.

Since the ISP report doesn’t say whether he was riding north or south on the highway, only that he lost control on the right shoulder, we aren’t sure what speed traffic in the area might have been going or if it had any impact on the crash.
