The Idaho Falls Zoo is now closed for the rest of the year after having one of the busiest years ever. They recorded the 3rd highest season in their history with attendance of more than 140,000 visitors in 2019. The zoo will be closed until April of 2020, but in the meantime they will be offering winter educational classes for kids of all ages and families each month the zoo is closed. The Idaho Falls Zoo has the new William J. Maeck Education Center in which to hold the classes. The zoo also plans to rebuild the entrance and gift shop in the next few years with proceeds from the busy year.

Over the Thanksgiving break they'll be doing a two day event on November 25th and 26th with arts, crafts, games, and special animal encounters. Another of the upcoming events at the Idaho Falls Zoo is the Santa and Friends event in early December. This new event will replace the Breakfast With Santa activity form previous years. Those who attend Santa and Friends will be able to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus along with some of the zoo animals.

In early January you can start the year off with a class on animal superpowers or winter survival skills. The zoo also has a cool program called the Zoomobile, where they send some zoo animals to schools and nursing homes for educational presentations. If you aren't interested in the educational classes, you can entertain yourself all winter long with great animal videos on the Idaho Falls YouTube channel. Sometimes the videos feature less animals and a little more alcohol but still worth a watch to see what happens at special events at the zoo.
